Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Lothern High Elf by David Colwell on Putty and Paint |
What a classic model. I've seen something similar to this, with the sea side cliff and crashing waves, done before to a super high level as well. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The pose and theme works perfectly for that. The paint job is flawless on this model, with smooth blends and crisp highlights. It's the 'Eavy Metal style taken to the Golden Demon extreme with some lovely non-metallic metals. The various shades of blue really work well together and make the sparing use of red, and the other warm colors of his face and hair, really pop.
The base is, of course, awesome as well. The effects that can be achieved with resin nowadays is astounding. It really feels like water. I think it could have used some more white foam though, especially where the wave is breaking against the rock. It's great to see such a well done sculpt get the attention it deserves.
Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
