Mini of the Week 7-2-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Gutrippaz Orruk by Thor Intararangson on Putty & Paint

The new Kruleboyz Orruks from Dominion are some pretty cool and unique sculpts. I love seeing the Orruk design being taken in this new way. The paint job on this Gutrippa compliments it perfectly as well. The extra pale skin fits the more gangly look of them, really making you believe that they spend most of their life in the mist shrouded swamps. It makes him look a little more unhealthy and pallid. The red tattoos/war paint is a nice touch as well. It ties into the other colors of the model, and make him feel a bit more tribal yet at the same time more sophisticated than the average orruk. Those designs are a step above what an Ironjawz Brute would be able to carry out.

The rest of the colors follow pretty closely to what GW did with the studio models, but it works! The actual quality of the painting is great, with distinctive texture to the skin, leather, and armor. All of the painting is smooth and crisp as well. I really like the addition of the weathering on the helmet and shield as it draws your eyes right to what are essentially the two focal points of the model. This is a fantastic rendition of the newest models from GW.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
