Mini of the Week 6-14-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Skaven Lord by QianweiSHI on Putty and Paint
I have to admit, this is one of my favorite Skaven sculpts. I always loved this warlord model and regret not painting it. There's just so much character in it. The paint job on this one is superb. I love how technicolor and vibrant it it. Everything is pushed to the extremes with the pink on the nose, tail, and pustules practically falling into the neon spectrum. It's balanced out nicely by the green glow from the sword and water. Everything is nice and crisp and smooth as well. The non-metallic metals look great without overpowering the mini. My eyes are definitely drawn to the face first, and then travel to the sword, than the base and the back up. It's a pretty effective visual triangle.

The base is a nice display base too. It set the scene, somewhere in the sewers, but doesn't distract from the model. It might be a little cliche, but it really is a great setting for the Skaven. I really like how they have managed to paint the green ooze coming out from the grate. Not only is it really cool and realistic looking, but it anchors the bottom of that visual triangle. Really an all around great job on this classic sculpt.

Be sure to check out more views of it over on Putty and Paint

Until next time,
