Mini of the Week 6-7-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Space Wolf by Artur Żołędowski on Putty and Paint
This is a really cool painting style. i don't want to say it's cartoony, because it's not, but it has a certain graphic element to it. It all feels very matte and representational instead of realistic, if that makes sense. Yet at the same time, it does have a lot of realistic elements to it, such as the weathering. There are also subtle shifts in tone across the armor, though most of it is flat. I feel like this style really relies on being able to completely nail your transitions as well as having super crisp highlights, but not anything that's too stark. It's a really interesting look that I've seen a few times, mostly on Marines.

If you look at the face, it seems to be one tone at first glance, but the shading on it is actually just super subtle and soft, but in a convincing way. It's just something very different from what we're used to seeing from the 'Eavy Metal style, and even the predominant styles out there at competitions. I would love to see a whole unit painted this way. A diorama would be particularly striking too because then you could do some cool lighting or environmental effects.

Be sure to check out more views of it over on Putty and Paint

Until next time,
