Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Ogroid Myrmidon by Adam Gladziński |
What's not to like about this model. It's already one of the coolest sculpts out there (I'd love a whole army of Ogroids) and the paint job on this is phenomenal. The colors used are so vivid and bright, and everything is blended and highlighted to perfection. The orange/red of the upper half blends down perfectly into the purple grey of the legs. It's a great color combo too that you don't see very often. I really like the teal used to offset it as well. There's a bit on the horns as verdigris, but the main focus of it is on the shield. The shield really is great and has some really effective freehand too. It's eye catching, but also believable as actually being painted on that shield if it was really. It's just a simple logo, not some extravagant painting. The weathering on it is well done as well.
I think the base does a great job of framing the model. It looks like a realistic nature scene, and the bright greens of the plants really pop, but not in a distracting way. It's nice to see a model like this set in a simple nature environment. It doesn't have to be battlefields, spikes, and skulls all the time. Sometimes these guys are just in a forest too. In my opinion, it makes them feel even more believable, since it's an environment we can identify with and imagine being in.
Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
