Mini of the Week 6-27-20

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday (Saturday this week) I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Abaddon the Despoiler by David Colwell on Putty and Paint

This model both has minimalism in its color choices and doesn't at the same time. I love how the majority of the model is very dark, drawing your eyes to the few areas of bright colors. Even though it all just looks dark at first glance, there are actually a number of colors in it, and the textures used really bring the different areas to life. His cape in particular has some wonderful texture to it. Like I said, your eye if inevitably drawn to the lighter areas of the model; the gold trim, his face, the sword, and to a lesser extent, the claws and top knot.

The sickly colors used on his skin along with the red glow really highlight the chaotic nature of Abaddon. The rainbow effect on the sword is something I wouldn't have thought of, but it definitely works. I also really like the skulls on the trophy rack. Again, some wonderful texture, especially on the Tyranid skull. They've redone the base as well, to bring it more in line with the minimalist vibe of the rest of the model. I really love how understate this model is. It's done to such a high standard and utilizes color and shadows excellently.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more angles and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
