Mini of the Week 6-5-20

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Dire Avenger Exarch by JH Miniatures

I love seeing old models getting lavish new paint jobs like this. This Exarch is such a classic second edition model and the paint job, besides being stunning on its own, is a near perfect match for the old Eldar Codex cover.

The blending and reflections on the model are near perfect, with super smooth gradients and nice crisp highlights. I like how they've taken the very saturated color scheme from the Codex cover and desaturated it a little bit to look more modern, yet still retain the same overall look. The freehand on this is insane as well. All of that decoration on the helmet is just painted on. Even the base has a great old school vibe with a bit of an update. It's clearly the Goblin Green base of old, but the gradient on it adds more interest and draws your eye towards the model. This is just a fantastic update on an old model overall.

Be sure to check it out on Cool Mini or Not to see some more angles and show the artist some love if you like it. You can also follow them on their Twitter account.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
