Mini of the Week 6-4-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Jungle Evocator by Arnau Lazaro

What can I say about this model that doesn't start with wow! Everything about this diorama is amazing, from top to bottom. Let's start with the Dracoline. I love how they managed to evoke the image of a tiger without literally painting black striped on it. By just using the tiger colors on a model that already reads very feline you immediately think of it as a tiger. The painting technique on it is amazing as well. I mean, just look at the Evocator himself! The non-metallic gold is next level. The amount of reflections painted onto the surface is astounding. It's so smooth and the colors it's reflecting are spot on.

The base on this diorama goes the extra mile and really puts you into the scene. It feels incredibly lifelike, and the composition of the arcing tree and the bushes frames the model perfectly. I love how it's pouncing over the bushes. I think the model is even painted so that the shadows from the trees are on it, with the front of the Dracoline being significantly lighter than the back and the Evocator. It's just such an evocative scene (pun intended). I've always been a fan of jungle scene with models and this one nails it.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
