Mini of the Week 2-26-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Orruk by Josh Berman “Quarterpaint”

I really love the style used on this model. It feels like something right out of a Frazetta fantasy painting. That's achieved largely through the color choices as well as the style of brush stroke. The model has a very painterly feel to it. When you look at it as a whole everything feels very smooth and blended, but when you zoom in you notice that the brush strokes are actually very apparent. They're just done in a way that your eye reads as being cohesive. I love that I can see the artist's hand in this. The color choices are also fantastic. The use of the warm tones in the reflections of the armor, or the reds in the shadows of the greens is great. Again, it's very reminiscent of 2d paintings. You can tell that this painter has some traditional training. I would love to see a whole diorama done in this style, including the environment. This is one amazing orruk.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
