Mini of the Week 2-20-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Honor Guard by Melnikov Ivan "Nakatan" on Putty & Paint

This mini is a masterclass in lighting and non-metallic metals! The Honor Guard model from the Ultramarines is a great sculpt to start with. It's very cool looking, but also rather subdued with lots of flat surfaces and different textures; the perfect model for a painter looking to stretch their skills. All of the armor is done with non-metallic metals and in my opinion, the reflections look perfect. You've got the red lighting coming up from the floor, and a light blue from above. This is especially impressive on all of the round armor. The red reflection on the Ultima symbol on the shield is fantastic.

I also really like the glowing eyes and neck. Not only is it a great color choice, but it really draws your eyes to the head and also shows off some wonderful shadows. Everything on this is super crisp and smooth. It's really a great showcase of this painter's talents!

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
