Mini of the Week 12-27-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Darkoath Chieftain by Antic on Putty & Paint
I love when models have little vignettes that go with them. There's something classic about having a painted backdrop with a model. The combination of the model, the colors used, and the base and backdrop give this guy a real Conan vibe. All of the colors on the model are bright and warm, really helping him stand out from the darker, colder colors used on the backdrop. Everything is smooth and crisp on the model while the backdrop has a bit more of a painterly feel to it.

The base he's on helps set the scene as well. Although the herdstone type thing is more typically associated with Beasts of Chaos, it works well with the Darkoath too. You really get a tribal feel from the whole thing, as well as something dark and sinister. I think the fire in the background helps add that last sinister touch, as well as a nice pop of color. You can imagine that he's just finished raiding a nearby village and set it to the flame.

Be sure to check out more views of it on Putty and Paint.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
