Mini of the Week 12-6-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Magos by Alex Varela on Putty and Paint
The new Magos model has become an instant favorite amongst painters and hobbyists alike. It just has so much character to it. This take on it is stunning. Right away the color choices just pop right out at you. The purple and the yellow look great, and the cold white behind her head really emphasizes her darker skin tone. I like that her eye shadow ties into the purple in her robes as well. The honeycomb pattern on her cowl gives it a nice classic sci-fi flair while adding a bit of freehand to the front of the model. The inclusion of a bright green gem as the only point of green on the whole model draws your eye right to it and goes perfectly with the purple.

Everything is smooth and crisp and the reflections on the shiny black armor and boots is spot on. I like that they kept the metallics as true metallics. There's nothing wrong with non-metallic metals, but I always prefer the real thing, and this way it lets the reflections on the black stand out more. The super reflective base gives it a sense of being in some opulent palace while also keeping the focus entirely on the model. This was definitely worthy of the finalist pin it got at the Golden Demons.

Be sure to check out more views of it on Putty and Paint.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
