Mini of the Week 8-17-18

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Shadespire Duel by Andrew Palies

Duels are always interesting to look at, and many of the Shadespire models are practically made for these kinds of scenes due to how dynamic they are. The choice of a Liberator and a Bloodreaver is very iconic for Age of Sigmar and the pose of these particular models matches up very nicely. You really get the feeling that the Stormcast is leaning into the attack, ready to deflect with her shield and follow up with the hammer while the Bloodreaver is just running headlong into it. I think there is slight conversion work on the Liberator, just to change the angle of her shield arm, but besides that I think these are stock models. All of the colors are very vibrant and bright, with plenty of contrast between the shadows and highlights, which really makes them pop. I like that he went with the Hallowed Knights colors since the cooler palette contrasts nicely with the warm reds of the Bloodreaver.

Everything is smooth and crisp, and the non-metallic metals on the models are great. Though they aren't 100% realistic, the stylized nature of it fits with the overall composition. I really like that the teal green was used on the base and crumbled statue. It's even reflected in the armor in places. Again, it's vibrant and eye catching, but more importantly, ties into the color most associated with Shadespire through the various art. Everything about this duel screams Shadespire, and the fact that it's excellently painted is just the cherry on top.

Be sure to check out the model on the official Golden Demon Winners website.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
