Mini of the Week 8-31-18

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Great Unclean One by Yohan Leduc

Yellow is always such a striking color, especially when it's on models as large as this. As far as I can tell, the main conversion on this is the left arm. It looks to be a combination of Rotigus' arm, the flail, and probably a lot of greenstuff and sculpting. I really like what it does to the pose. It's a very classic stance for a wargaming miniature, weapon raised while pointing and yelling, but it's a classic because it works so well. The only thing on the conversion that bugs me a bit is that the third skull on the flail wasn't changed at all. Normally on the model this is dragging along the ground, so part of it is flat to fit flush with the base. Here it's raised up yet still flat. It just feels a bit odd.

The colors are great, with a really smooth and bright yellow. It does have a bit of a mustard feel to it, which is very fitting for Nurgle. Contrasting it with the maroon of the cloth and wounds works great, and by limiting the main colors to just those two it really allows the paintwork to shine. The guts, are a nice pale color, which looks pretty sickly, while also staying neutral so as to not distract from the main colors. The only other notable color outside of the metallics and bone are the light turquoise boils. These are small enough that it's a nice little pop of another color without detracting from anything else. Everything is smooth and crisp and I think an entire Nurgle demon army done in this manner could look really cool.

Be sure to check out the model on the official Golden Demon Winners website.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
