Mini of the Week 9-2-16

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Besides just being a great example of some very solid color choices, (Besides being those horrid UofM colors, go State!), this model has some excellent reflections. The whole thing has a very convincing reflective look. Lots of it has obviously been done with an airbrush, but it's been finished off with a brush which is what helps pull it together and look sharp. All of the final highlights have been completed with a brush and they have also added some light weathering.

My favorite part of it though are the gemstones. Instead of just going for the very standard gemstone painting technique, they have gone for a more fiery look. I really love how it looks like they are burning with an inner fire, and the level of contrast between the darks and the lights within each gemstone really makes them stand out. It's crisp details like this that really help pull a model together at the end. They also stand out great against the dark blue of the armor. I do feel like the highlights are a little too soft in some areas due to the airbrush, but the final bit of brushwork helped overcome that. Overall it's a very nice model and would look great on the table!

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Cool Mini or Not, and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
