Mini of the Week 3-15-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Shadespire Bloodreaver by QianweiSHI
I really love how smooth and vibrant everything is on this Bloodreaver. The blends are flawless, especially on the non-metallic metals and the flesh. I also really like how successfully they've managed to make all of the textures feel different from each other. The cloth has a bit of a rougher texture, while the metals have really sharp and crisp highlights. Most impressive to me though is the skin. I love that they've worked greens and blues in for the shadows, which is something I remember being taught in college for traditional painting, but not something you see often in miniatures, especially ones like this. The skin even has an almost waxy feel, but in a good way. It feels like skin, not like a painted representation of skin.

The color choice is excellent as well. The blue pants work great with the red and gold armor and the bright orange hair is different enough that it stands out and draws your eye, but still falls within the rest of the palette so as not to distract you. All around, this is a beautiful model.

Be sure to check out more views of it on Putty and Paint and show the artist some love if you like it!

Until next time,

Tyler M.
