Mini of the Week 2-15-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Khazad Dum by Max Richiero
I don't normally have Middle Earth miniatures on here, but I just love the atmosphere of this so much! This really captures the look and mood of this scene from Fellowship. The strong contrast between the orange of the Balrog and the blue of Gandalf really makes it pop. The glow effects are nicely done too, with the ripples of light on the ground around Gandalf really taking it to the next level.

Even with the glowing effects somewhat washing out parts of it, it still manages to capture just the right amount of detail. This definitely still looks like Gandalf, and the painting is still really smooth and crisp. I like how his robes seem to have a rougher texture then other parts of him as well. The display base for it is simple, but extremely effective. You know what scene this is, it looks the part, and it doesn't distract from the focus of the piece. I would love to see some more dioramas like this recreating parts from the movies. That's one of the places where the Middle Earth models really shine, especially the ones sculpted to depict certain key moments, like this Gandalf.

Be sure to check it out more views of it over on Putty and Paint and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
