Slann by Matt Kennedy |
The Age of Sigmar Open Day has come and passed, and with it the AoS Golden Demons. This year's Slayer Sword winner is this amazing Slann Starmaster. As far as I can tell, the conversion on this is pretty light, with a new back for the throne and a clever use of snakes to attack the throne to the base to achieve the floating look without a flight stand. Where it really shines though is in the paint job. I love how bright and crisp everything is. It definitely has that 'Eavy Metal look to it. The green of the skin is so bright and bold, and shading it with a turquoise color looks great. It gives it a tropical and mystical feel all at the same time. All of the blends on this are super smooth, especially on the glowing parts like his eyes and the throne back.
This is not an overly complicated paint scheme, but it's super effective, grabs your attention, and is done to an exacting standard. This is the type of paint job I think of when I think of an extremely well done GW model. There's no doubt that this deserved the Slayer Sword this year.
Until next time,
