Mini of the Week 4-20-18

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Through the Never by Benjamin Kantor on Putty and Paint
Doing the Mini of the Week segment after the Crystal Brush is almost too easy with the number of amazing models that come out of it. This one is no exception. There's so much great stuff going on here. I love the diorama setting, having her coming out of a webway portal, and the bridge forming beneath her feet is perfect. What really makes it work though is the paint job. The color choices, blending, and crispness of the paint is already top tier, but what really stands out of course is the lighting. The mood that they managed to capture with the dark light spilling off of the portal is spot on. It reflects her nature perfectly and does a great job at making a dark/light contrast on the piece.

Beyond just the painting and lighting effects on the model, we have some pretty cool looking freehand with the portal itself. The fact that they painted on the scene that she is emerging from is great and it looks good too. I can definitely imagine her emerging from that alien landscape. Overall, this is just a great piece for mood and setting.

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Putty and Paint and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
