Mini of the Week 8-26-16

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Ironjawz Megaboss by RUmc on Cool Mini or Not
Orruks seem to be the model of choice for fantastic painters lately with the Gordrakk last week and now this Megaboss. Just like his cousin, this mini was entered into the Age of Sigmar Golden Demon and also took home an award, a bronze in single figure. I am absolutely floored by how crisp the highlights are on this. I know I always talk about crisp highlights on well done models, but this is a whole other level. Just look at the yellow dags on his ax or his skin. That yellow is awesome as well. It's so rich and the blends are smooth and at the same time dramatic. The skin is wonderful too. I love how they went for a rich green color in the recesses while the main skin tone is a little more drab.

I can't leave out the black armor either, which has some really nice brown and blue tones in it to give something that could have been very flat and boring a lot of life. Really the only criticisms I have of the model is the freehand symbol on his shoulder and the base. The freehand is really good, but I feel like it could have benefited from some weathering and damage. The base is just really plain compared to the rest of the model, and to me looks too much like cork. If the cork had been disguised a bit more I think it would have helped. That's really just nitpicking though because the rest of the model is outstanding and very deserving of its trophy.

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Cool Mini or Not, and show the artist some love if you like it.

Right now you can also have a chance at winning the Archaon painted by Duncan from Warhammer TV at the NOVA open. It's $5 a raffle ticket and supports Doctor's Without Borders, so it's all for a good cause too! You can buy your raffle tickets here.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
