Mini of the Week 8-19-16

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Gordrakk by Martin Waller
You may have seen this mini already, it's the Slayer Sword winner from the Age of Sigmar open day this past weekend. I first saw this on Facebook a week or two beforehand and was instantly blown away by how amazing it is. Martin stuck with the standard yellow and black color scheme for Gordrakk, and it looks great. All of the colors are very subdued and desaturated which gives it a very realistic look. The blending and weathering on the yellow parts of the armor are pretty much perfect. As amazing as the armor is, the most impressive part to me is the skin. The face has a suitably raw look to it. I love the red tones worked into the skin around the exposed skull.

Here you can see the amount of detail he even put into the skin on the back that's mostly covered by the armor. The blueish green spots on the upper back are a nice little touch and again adds a new level of realism to the skin. It makes Gordrakk look older, which works for the biggest, baddest Megaboss in the Mortal Realms. The black and lava of the base is the perfect frame for the model with the bright red drawing your eye. All in all this is definitely an extremely deserving model to win the Slayer Sword. Congratulations Martin!

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Pictaram, and show the artist some love if you like it. You can also follow him on Instagram @martin_waller_figurepainter.

Today I also want to mention a charity raffle on The Grand Alliance Community for the Warhammer World exclusive Errant-Questor Stormcast and the Forge World Fimirach Noble from Dangermouse452. All you have to is buy as many raffle tickets as you want and then this Sunday he will draw a winner for each model. The charity the money is being donated to is to save Greyhounds in the UK from being euthanized after races. It's a great cause and you have a chance of winning some cool models as well! Save the puppies and save the Realms!

You can find more info about it, including how to get a raffle ticket here. If you want to read more about the charity itself you can find more info here.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
