Mini of the Week 6-17-16

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Mistweaver Saih by Gareth Nicholas on Putty and Paint
What a fantastically painted mini, not just in technique, but in color choice as well. I love the bright neon teals, pinks and purples. It has a definite Aelf feel to it, but the colors actually evoke older Eldar artwork a lot for me, specifically the 3rd Edition codex cover. I really think my favorite part is the pink hair, it's perfect for the fantastical nature of AoS. The painting is super smooth and crisp on this as well with some great non-metallic metals and a really cool gloss look on the helmet/faceplate. The color shifting on the cloak is also really neat, and subtle enough that it doesn't detract from the focus points of the model.

I like how the mist has a purplish tone as well, just further reinforcing the overall color scheme. The little bit of freehand with the Aelfen (Aelven?) symbol is subtle as well, adding a nice bit of interest without trying to steal the show. Last, but not least, is the base, which has been modeled and painted to match the Silver Tower game board. I have seen a lot of really cool Silver Tower basing since that game was released, and this is right up there with some of the most creative and well executed examples. Again, fantastic job, fantastic colors, really just amazing.

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Putty and Paint, and show the artist some love if you like it.

Thanks to @PJschard on Twitter for pointing this mini out for me.

I would also like to draw everyone's attention to our new sponsor who you can find up in the top right corner of the site, Ministomp, for all of your GW model needs. You can follow them on Twitter at @ministomp where they do competitions from time to time. They will also be our prize support provider for the painting competitions for the coming year, and we already have something cool in the works. If you like painting and Age of Sigmar keep an eye out for the announcement sometime soonish.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
