Mini of the Week 3-28-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Mindstealer Sphiranx by jorsajhi on Putty and Paint

This is an amazing model on it's own, and this paint job on it is pretty great. Usually you see this model in more vibrant and unnatural colors as befits a creature of Tzeentch. I think this is the first time I've seen it in more natural colors like this. Sure the blue is still unusual, but it's fairly muted and the rest of it is a color that would make sense on a large cat like this in our own world. Not only is it a great color scheme, but the painting on it is top notch.

All of the shadows and highlights are smooth and crisp, but not overly so. Just like with the blue, they're more subdued and natural looking. I really like the subtle fur texture painted onto the lighter part of the body. This is actually sculpted as flat, so that effect, except for the larger tufts, is entirely painted on. I'd love to see more naturalistic takes on crazy Chaos creatures like this.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
