Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Judiciar by werwolf on CMoN |
The Judiciar from the Indomitus set quickly became a fan favorite model and it's easy to see why. Who doesn't like a guy in a skull helmet with a big executioner's sword? This rendition of the model has no conversion, and really, it doesn't need any. This is a pretty straight forward version of the character, it's even an Ultramarine. What I really like about it though are the different textures. The cold reflections on the black armor have a nice smoothness to them next to the warmer texture of the leather coat. You really get the feeling of the leather being more worn. I also really like that the metallics on it are true metallic paint, letting the reflections on the armor shine more, both figuratively and literally. The metals still have nice transitions on them though, with the blend on the sword being particularly good.
The base is nice and simple, but it still conveys the idea of him walking through a war torn city or temple. Everything on this model is crisp and smooth when it comes to the paint job. Just look at the blend on his skull helmet. It's a straightforward paint job but it's really, really well done.
Be sure to check it out on Cool Mini or Not to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
