Mini of the Week 2-21-20

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Tor Garadon by Łukasz Łazarecki on Putty and Paint

I really like this take on Tor Garadon. First off, for me, the head change is a nice improvement. The original head is fine and is definitely a more unique looking head, but this one just looks more serious and no nonsense. The painting on this model is really top notch. I like that they kept all of the Imperial Fist colors, but in a more muted, and realistic manner. The level of weathering on this model really sells the idea that he's just battered his way through a fortress. It borders on the being too much, but finds the balance nicely. All of the blends and highlights are great as well. I particularly like the ones used on the face. The base has been expanded upon nicely, with more shattered concrete blocks. It tells a story that works for this model, yet still keeps it simple. The weathering on the ground and his feet really help tie him into the environment as well.

What's really impressive about this model though is when you start looking at it from other angles. They've really captured some dramatic lighting on the miniature, with the back half of it being mostly in shadow. It's done perfectly and really gives the mini a sense of drama. I highly recommend you follow the link to look at the other angles of the model.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see more views of it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
