Mini of the Week 11-1-19

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Legion of the Damned by Alexander Borodenkov
The Legion of the Damned have always been a cool concept. What's not to like about ethereal, undead Space Marines? When you combine that idea with the aesthetic of Ghost Rider you get this undeniably cool and beautiful mini. I love that it takes the basic concept of the Legion and turns it up to 11. All of the conversion work on this is flawless, with the flames standing out as particularly well done. Even the ribcage design is spot on though as well. The paint job lives up to the sculpting too. Everything is smooth and crisp, and the colors are extremely vibrant. The orange of the flames is so well done it practically looks like it's glowing.

I like that for the non-metallic metals they chose to go with a blue tinted grey, which adds to the vibrancy as well as a contrast to the flames. All of this is framed in by the neutral black of the armor. The addition of the subtle orange glow coming from all of the cracks is a nice touch and really makes it feel like the entirety of the Marine is on fire. The base is a nice cool off white with a green tint. This really helps frame the darker armor, and again, contrasts well with the orange flames. There's just enough details added in the form of the candles, skulls, and sci-fi elements to give you a sense of space and theme, without becoming distracting. It helps that most of it is painted in slightly more drab and neutral colors as well.

Be sure to check out more views of it on Putty and Paint.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
