Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Arkanaut Frigate by HooY on Cool Mini or Not |
Wow! I love the colors on this boat. It's so extremely vibrant in all the best ways. I'm a fan of the Kharadron Overlords stuff being weathered, my own Frigate is a little weathered, but this one is super weathered and it looks great. The rust is such a bright orange and the verdigris is such a saturated sea green that it almost looks like it's glowing. It's logical, real world ideas, taken to an extreme, which is perfect for a fantasy setting. The fact that the rest of the ship is so dark really makes it pop too.
The purple we can see on the back end of it is very vibrant as well and has some great blending and sharp highlights. Even though this is heavily weathered you can tell that this painter really knows what they are doing. They aren't trying to hide sloppy work with the rust at all. In fact, I think it would look amazing without it as well. The portholes are another example of their excellent painting skills and ability to get some amazing depth to the colors. There isn't a single thing I dislike about this model. I would love to see a whole armada painted in this manner.
Be sure to check out more views of the model on the Cool Mini or Not, and show the artist some love if you like it.
