Mini of the Week 11-13-15

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Alexis Polux by Slave of Paint on Cool Mini or Not

In the spirit of all of the Heresy coverage and excitement going on this week I figured it would be best to keep the Mini of the Week in the same theme. Luckily there is a plethora of well painted Heresy minis out there, so it wasn't hard to find a good candidate. I have seen a ton of Primarchs so I decided to go for one of the smaller characters. This Alexis Polus is amazing. The yellow is the perfect shade with just the right amount of warmth in it. It's perfectly smooth and crisp. The flesh tones used on him fit really well with the warmth too, being a little more ruddy then we normally see. I love the zenithal highlights on the black. It really helps set a feeling of Alexis being in a specific place and the fact that they are coming from directly above reinforces the idea of him on a starship.

I'm not sure what colors were used on the brass of the shield, but I really like it. It's dark enough to not compete with the yellow, which could have been a risk on this guy. The blending on the fallen banner is top notch as well with the blood spatter being a nice final touch. Filthy Iron Warriors. The purple lights along the base is an interesting choice and I'm not sure how I feel about them, but in the end it doesn't detract from the model at all.

I have to admit, I may have chosen this model for another reason too. The 7th Legion will soon start making appearances on this site a little more regularly, starting next week!

For Dorn!

Be sure to check out more views of it on Cool Mini or Notand show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
