The Sons of Amit

Hello everyone, I recently finished working on this commission for a Flesh Tearer sternguard squad, and I have to say, I enjoyed painting them.

This is for the same client that I painted the lone Flesh Tearer Veteran Sargent with a power ax a year ago or so. I have had these guys since December and I am taking longer and longer to get commissions done unfortunately (I promise that the Necron Tomb Stalker will get done and will be worth the wait). Batch painting is something I rarely do on my own armies anymore. My Plaguebearers are painted one at a time, my Death Guard Termies are one at a time, regular marines 2 at a time, and in fact the only guys I have painted in the standard batch of 5 at a time are my cultists and zombies. I painted these guys in a batch of 2 then 3 and I think they came out pretty good.

I was asked to paint them with golden helmets like the veterans of the Blood Angels have which is a little more bling then I would personally give the Flesh Tearers but still looks good. The pointing guy above had the corner of his right arm and bolter pretty poorly miscast where it almost looked like he was melting so I just painted it as battle damage. This scheme is so quick and easy to paint, basecoat Mecharite Red, cover that entirely with Red Gore, line the armor recesses with Nuln Oil and then highlight the edges with a Bone/Gore mix followed by pure Bone and then a glaze of Carroburg Crimson. It almost makes me want to restart my own Flesh Tearers, but I think I will save up my marine painting for a Pre-Heresy force.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
