Mini of the Week 5-7-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Abaddon by Tomáš "Persifal" Pekař on Putty and Paint

I really love the subtlety on this version of Abaddon. It still uses many of the colors you typically associate with the warmaster of Chaos, but tweaks them in new and interesting ways. The brightest, and most eye catching colors are the gold, the sword, and the red glow on his face. Everything else is a bit more subdued and realistic. Both the cape and the loin cloth are a very neutral color. The black has some wonderful hints of colors worked into it. All of it has a slight green tone to it, which is most apparent when you see it next to the purple being reflected onto the armor on the leg that's stepping on the marine.

All of it is wonderfully crisp and smooth, with the non-metallic gold particularly standing out for how well it's blended. I really enjoy the bright blue sword. It's a nice bit of callback to the more vibrant 2nd edition color scheme he had amongst the more realistic tones on the model. Same goes for the red glow on the face. It's been done lots of times, but it never fails to look awesome on Abaddon. He has modified the base to have a bit more bulk to it. It's also painted in much darker and dustier colors, which helps Abaddon stand out on top of it. Overall it's a wonderful rendition of the warmaster.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
