Mini of the Week 12-21-18

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Blood Angel Primaris by Olmo Castrillo on PuttyandPaint

Marine armor has always been a great canvas for lighting and reflection techniques, and this one is no exception. The red of the armor has some pretty flawless reflections on it going from near black to almost white really smoothly. I like how some blue has been used in the shadows as well. Everything looks like it's placed correctly and some of the finer line highlights are what really impresses me. I like that the color palette has basically been kept to red, blue, and gold, with the exception of the slime pool on the base. This limited choice of colors really lets a painter show off what they can do with their skills. The face has some fantastic contrast on it as well, drawing the eye right to it with the extremely bright spot on his forehead. The difference in textures is really nicely done, making sure that there is a good spread of reflective and matte tones throughout.

Be sure to check it out more views of it on Putty and Paint and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
