Mini of the Week 11-17-17

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Black Dragons Reivers by Manu Miniatures on CMoN
Back in the shadowed mists of time of around 2004 I once started a Black Dragon army myself. I really liked the story behind them and the color scheme seemed pretty straight forward. That project got abandoned along the way, but it's still cool to see some well painted models for them. Reivers are the perfect choice to embody their nature as well, plus, their bone swords just look cool with the skull mask. The conversion on these guys is really simple, with bone swords on only one of them and horns on another. You can definitely see why the Imperium would regard them with mistrust. Where these really excel though is in the paint job.

Black is a deceptively hard color to paint, and here it's done perfectly. There are smooth blends up to a grey without it looking overly grey, followed by sharp highlights. It has just the right amount of weathering on it as well. The purple accents are a nice touch, and even the leather pouches have a slight purple tint to them. The chapter symbol freehand looks ace, and the base is a nice warm color which helps frame the dark model. Overall, these are very nicely done, without going over the top at all.

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Cool Mini or Not and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
