Mini of the Week 10-28-16

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Ultramarine Captain by Mathew Kane of MKA Painting

Wow, this guy's whole Ultramarines army is amazing, but this captain is particularly awesome. It's so unique, I doubt you will ever see a model like it in another army. Based off his description this mini has parts from the Praetor, Pollus, Loken, Horus, Guilliaman, and even more models. That's dedication to a conversion, and it all goes together so well too. Being able to seamlessly combine all of these different parts into a single model and have it look like it was meant to be this way all along is a talent. Keep in mind that some of these parts were from Primarchs, so a completely different scale. The planning that must have went into making this is intense just to think about. Those are some pretty expensive models you're poaching parts from. The pose he achieved too is perfect for an Ultramarine. It's heroic and slightly arrogant.

The painting is top notch as well. These pictures are a little blurry because they are taken from a 360º view, but even in these you can tell how vibrant all of the colors are. Those blues and golds definitely stand out from a distance. The blending on the colors is super smooth too and all of the highlights are crisp. The freehand designs on his shield and cloak are insanely good, and the weathering to them is just the icing on the cake. Either way, this mini is outstanding, and like I said, so is the rest of his force. Seriously, check them all out. I almost switched this guy out for his Leviathan Contemptor.

Be sure to check out a 360º view of the model here, and follow all of the great painting at MKA on their official Facebook page here.

Check out the Contemptor here, some Terminators here (all converted from the Praetor model), and some of his rank and file marine here.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
